Community Partner Agencies
The Dover Children’s Home ~ In 1892 thirteen members of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (several of whom were members of First Parish) collectively pledged to be responsible for rent and other expenses of a home for needy children. For more than 125 years members of First Parish have continued to support those needs.
Adult Learning Center ~ This center had its beginnings at First Parish. In the late 1960’s Adult Basic Education (ABE) was organized to provide basic parenting skills to new parents in the Dover area and to teach English as a second language. It was a program connected with an effort by community leaders, lead by the pastor of First Parish Church, to identify basic social needs in the community and coordinate volunteer efforts to meet those needs. The program was housed at First Parish Church. That program developed into the Adult Learning Center now housed at the McConnell Center.
