Christian Education
Sunday Children’s Faith Formation Gatherings--a new version of Sunday School!
Beginning September 8th families will begin together at the worship service in the sanctuary, and then after their special time in worship all pre-k through sixth graders will be welcomed to join with adult leaders in the education wing of the church. They’ll begin together as a whole, share in a time of prayer and offering, then meet in age-appropriate groups to explore lessons from scripture and contemporary stories that lift up Progressive Christian values and engage in creative activities that support their learning. From the very beginning of their spiritual journey our aim is to encourage questions, nurture wonder, and open up the space for self-confidence to grow.
The month of September is all about Imagining Together: Being at Home in this World.
What does this look like, feel like? In this spirit, these are the stories we’ll spring from:
September 15: Psalm 23
Exploring welcome, rest, confidence
September 22: Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 18:1-15, 21:1-7)
Exploring welcoming the stranger, hospitality, surprising guests
September 29: The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-15)
Exploring sharing, enough for all, and in anticipation of
World Communion Sunday: coming together at the table where there’s an empty chair for the unexpected ‘other’
The month of October carries forward the theme of being at home in this world with these stories:
October 13: Ruth 1:1-22 (Ruth and Naomi)
Exploring how no matter where we are from, we belong together,
friendship, love as an action
October 20 : Luke 15:1-10 (the Lost Sheep. the Lost Coin)
Every one counts, the vulnerable ones, the promise of being beloved
October 27: Mark 12:38-44 (the Widow’s Offering)
Each one has a precious gift to offer, contributing to the common good
